Yesterday I was fighting an old server and trying to figure out if I really had a problem. I went through the steps of upgrading the BIOS, ESM, PERC driver and firmware and then lastly the Open Manage software.

Then I could not get the Array Manager and previous Dell software to uninstall. I tried lots of things including stopping services and disabling them. Also deleted the folders. But wait the DLLs are in use and I could not get them to unregister manually. So I was stuck. I could get the old version uninstalled and I couldn’t get the new version to install because of the previous version. Catch 22 huh?

I found my answer here. http://www.absoblogginlutely.net/mtblogarchive/2008/10/dells-omclean-t.php

Look under the folder that was created when you unzipped the software. You will see a sub folder called OMClean. You then will see an OMClean.exe. Run this and this process will remove all the left behind Dell software junk. Reboot the server.

Now you can install Open Manage.
